Three Most Important Features for an Inventory Tracking ProgramMost businesses need to track inventory, whether they be restaurants or nuclear power plants. While it's true that the type of inventory may differ from one business type to another, the need to manage inventory does not.Software applications have empowered businesses across the board to save time and money, bolster their efficiency, and therefore increase their bottom lines. It should come as no surprise that there is a very rich playing field full of software for the sake of inventory management. Which one is the best choice for you? After spending much time researching different inventory management tools, we have concluded that only one manufacturer offers a solution that contains all three of what we consider to be the most important features, for an off the shelf program. To qualify that, there are many packages that are engineered with very specific markets in mind. We are not including that tangent in our research. We are simply discussing 'generic' inventory packages that can be purchased and configured relatively quickly, regardless of the type of business that you own/manage. The three features that we have identified as being all important are as follow: • Unlimited Location Creation - This is where you can define locations within locations in your business, where inventory is stored. Ideally, this should be an unlimited paradigm. • Unique Identifiers - This is where you set up item properties that are specific only to your business, for the sake of segregating similar types of inventory, like lot numbers, etc • Yelow Alerts/Red Alerts - This is where the system warns you when specific inventory is either running low or approaching an expiration date. To date, the only COTS that we have found that expertly address each of these key issues is produced by LabLite LLC, www.lablite.com, and the name of the product, not surprisingly, is LabLite Inventory. |
